TASAC STARTS ORAL EXAMINATIONS FOR DECK AND ENGINE OFFICERS

The Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has started the Oral Examinations for Deck and Engine Officers, the examinations, which have started today, the 16th of December will run to the 31st of December 2024 for the purpose of getting proper licensed Marine Officers.
Speaking during the official opening on behalf of the Registrar and the Director General of TASAC, the Director of Shipping Business, Mr. Nelson Mlali said that Tanzania has been receiving positive feedback from stakeholders on the quality of licensed Marine Officers produced in the country.
He added that TASAC is still working on sourcing for Memorandum of Understanding with other International Maritime Organization Member states/European Maritime Safety Agencies to improve some areas especially in sourcing sea time for Marine Officers produced in the country.
“However, we acknowledge the need for improvement in some areas especially in sourcing sea time, hence we are working on signing Memorandum of Understanding with other International Maritime Organization Member states and European Maritime Safety Agencies to address these challenges,” Mr. Mlali said.
He congratulated the Board of Examination (BOE) team for being supportive to TASAC for conducting oral examinations, eligibility, remarking and invigilation of CoC examinations as per the powers provided in regulation 37 of the Merchant Shipping (Training, Certification, and Manning) Regulation 2016.
“My humble request to you all is to continue discharging your responsibilities diligently so that our Maritime Administration becomes a World Class Maritime Administration as per our vision,” he said.
A total of 33 candidates are taking the examinations, where 7 are deck candidates and 26 are engine candidates.
